Monitor poll: Romney +13
Mitt Romney continues to lead Rudy Giuliani and John McCain in the campaign for the Republican presidential primary in New Hampshire, according to a Concord Monitor/Research 2000 poll to be published in tomorrow's paper. Here's the breakdown:
- Romney -- 31 percent
- Giuliani -- 18 percent
- McCain -- 17 percent
- Mike Huckabee -- 9 percent
- Ron Paul -- 7 percent
- Fred Thompson -- 3 percent
- Duncan Hunter -- 1 percent
- Tom Tancredo -- 1 percent
- Undecided -- 13 percent
- Margin of error: +/- 5 percentage points
Romney's lead is smaller among the undeclared voters in the sample, where the breakdown is: Romney 28, McCain 21, Paul 16, Giuliani 14.
The 400 likely voters surveyed were also asked who they preferred if the choice was limited to just two of the main contenders. In none of these either/or scenarios did one of the candidates top 44 percent (or drop below 35 percent) -- yet another indicator of the potential for the race to change:
- Romney -- 43
- Giuliani -- 38
- Romney -- 44
- McCain -- 37
- Romney -- 44
- Huckabee -- 35
- Giuliani -- 44
- McCain -- 43
- Giuliani -- 41
- Huckabee -- 36
- McCain -- 40
- Huckabee -- 36
